The use of natural fibers as composite materials for the manufacture of automotive components today are widely used, such as coconut fibers, straw, and resam. This condition is very difficult when only rely on some fiber, but there are many other plants that have not been touched. Therefore, it should be another alternative for instance with pineapple leaf fibers. Utilization of pineapple leaf fiber only for raw materials crafts. For that we need to do research on pineapple leaf fibers that have a wider utilization. Research has been conducted by other researchers showed that the use of natural fibers as a composite material can be enhanced with NaOH.

The purpose of this study was to obtain new composite materials, the result of a chemical treatment with NaOH solution to pineapple leaf fibers. Stages of this research are: manufacture of test samples, mechanical testing and data analysis. The materials for the manufacture of test samples include pineapple leaf fiber, epoxy resin as a hardener and wax glasses as a preventive attachment of the resin into the mold. The test object is made by weaving fibers that are ready to use then mixed into the resin. Parameter fiber percentage of 20%, 30%, and 40% and the percentage of matrix 70%, 80% and 90%. The size of the test object based on a standard tensile tests (ASTM D 638-14), impact test (ISO-179-2010) and heat resistance test at a temperature of 85 ° for 12 hours. The highest value of the tensile test was 39.60 ± 3.70 MPa, the stretch of 1.94 ± 0.73%, the heat resistance of 1.31% ± 1.96%. While most high-value impact test was 39.20 ± 3.97 kJ / m2. In addition the test results was excellent heat resistance are not damaged. These results show the tensile test.
